is an elections attorney for the Democratic Party who has served on multiple Democrat presidential campaigns and became a partner at a major law firm. Taking what he had gained over the years, Elias later started a voting and election litigation media platform, along with a law firm to continue his previous work.
Elias was born in NYC and raised in Suffern, New York. In 1990, he earned a bachelor of arts in government from Hamilton College. He then earned a master’s degree in political science from Duke University and a Juris Doctor from Duke University School of Law in 1993. That same year, he got a job at a prestigious pro-establishment law firm.
In 1993, Elias began his legal career at Perkins Coie, a prominent law firm. Over the years, he focused on campaign finance and election law, representing clients like the Democratic National Committee (DNC), various Democratic congressional candidates, and advocacy organizations. Sometime in the early 2000s, Elias became a partner at the firm.
In 2004, Marc Elias was hired as general counsel for John Kerry’s presidential campaign. Years later, the FEC unanimously ruled against John Kerry, ordering him to repay the Treasury $1.3 million. Elias attacked the ruling and vowed to appeal. For more info on John Kerry’s exploits, check out his edition of America Mission™’s Faces of Tyranny.
In 2008, Elias served as lead counsel for Senator Al Franken in his recount and contest efforts. After an over eight-month legal battle, Franken defeated Republican incumbent Norm Coleman in one of the closest elections in the Senate’s history. Afterward, in 2009, Elias became chair of the political law group at Perkins Coie following the appointment of Robert Bauer as White House Counsel for President Barack Obama.
In 2015, Elias was hired on to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign as her lead campaign lawyer. During this time, Elias bankrolled Fusion GPS, a Washington firm, to carry out opposition research against Trump. According to a source close to Politico, they were retained from April 2016 until before the election in early November. The oppo research became ex-British spy Christopher Steele’s Trump–Russia dossier, also known as the Steele dossier.

Elias has helped the Democratic Party establishment fight against voter ID. Shortly before the 2016 election, billionaire leftist donor George Soros gave at least $5 million to Elias to fight against photo ID requirements at polling places, according to The New York Times.
According to Mr. Soros’s political adviser, Michael Vachon, Elias was in contact with Soros in January 2014 when Elias was exploring a series of federal lawsuits before that year’s midterm election and in advance of the 2016 campaign. In early 2017, Elias joined the board of Priorities USA super PAC to focus on similar work. Soros contributed $5 million to Priorities USA during the 2018 election cycle.
In 2020, Elias founded Democracy Docket, a website focused on voting rights and election litigation in the United States. According to their current about section, “Democracy Docket is the leading digital news platform dedicated to information, analysis and opinion about voting rights and elections in the courts.” Curiously, the word “progressive” was included in the organization’s description and was removed sometime this year.
According to Elias’s LinkedIn page, “when Trump contested the outcome of the 2020 election, Marc met every futile challenge at the courthouse, notching over 60 legal victories against the former president and his allies during the post-election period, alone. He has also successfully represented several House and Senate candidates in post-election litigation, recounts and challenges.”
In 2021, Elias left his Perkins Coie role as the head of the political law to form his law firm — Elias Law Group.
In May 2022, Elias was called to testify by prosecutors for special counsel John Durham at the trial of his former law partner Michael Sussmann, who had been charged with making a false statement to FBI general counsel James Baker during a meeting they had in September 2016. Elias testified to hiring Fusion GPS to conduct oppo research against Trump, asserting it was part of a larger effort to protect the Clinton campaign from possible libel suits from Trump or others.
His testimony was highly critical of Trump and the FBI’s handling of the Trump-Russia probe.
Last year, investigative journalist Laura Loomer discovered that The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump Republican organization, had worked with Elias Law Group.
Marc Elias has assisted The 65 Project, a Soros-funded organization targeting pro-Trump attorneys willing to represent him. The organization began running ads in swing states, threatening pro-Trump lawyers with losing their law licenses. Former head ethics deputy counsel in President Trump’s Office of White House Counsel, Stefan Passantino, best known for his representation of a witness in the Jan 6 Capitol attack House investigation, went on Tucker Carlson to explain his opinion of the ethics violations he was accused of.
In April of 2023, the DNC ended their longstanding business relationship with Elias. In July of 2023, President Biden’s team cut ties with Elias.
Back in August, Elias was hired by the Kamala Harris 2024 presidential campaign to focus on potential recounts and post-election litigation. Three weeks ago, Elias predicted that this year’s election would be “the most litigious election in American history”. For more info on Kamala Harris’s exploits, check out her edition of America Mission™’s Faces of Tyranny.
According to the New York Post, Elias is trying to force the Pennsylvania Senate race into a recount. The race was called for Republican McCormick by the Associated Press and the state’s news outlets, but incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Casey has refused to concede and called for more money.
Back on November 7th, Elias publicly stated on X that the race wasn’t over.
Here’s what he likely meant. According to the Free Beacon, the Harris Fight Fund, an extension of her campaign team, sent out an email to its supporters in a bid to prolong swing state Senate races. Arizona, Nevada, and Pennsylvania were specifically mentioned.
After President-elect Donald Trump’s landslide victory nearly a week ago, it would be difficult for the Kamala campaign to justifiably contest the election’s result. However, the Democratic Party making some last-ditch effort to challenge the presidential election is not outside the realm of possibilities. Rest assured, America Mission™ will be there to cover it.
